Step 1: Review the Mission Timeline

1. Review the Mission Timeline: Take time to carefully review the mission timeline together. The goal is to build a shared understanding of the sequence of events from the simulation.

2. Focus on Reviewing, Not Analyzing: At this stage, focus on what happened and in what order. This is not yet the time to analyze, interpret, or judge the team’s response.

3. Identify 2–3 Pivotal Moments: From your review, identify 2–3 specific moments from the team’s experience that are worth exploring further in Step 2.

A pivotal moment may include:

  • Key Decisions: When the team faced and resolved a critical choice that influenced the mission’s direction or outcome.
  • Unexpected Challenges: When the team had to respond to a sudden obstacle, shift, or disruption.
  • Shifts in Team Dynamics: When the team’s energy, coordination, confidence, or overall mood noticeably changed.
  • Breakthroughs: When someone’s idea, question, or perspective led to meaningful progress.
  • Conflicts or Disagreements: When different views or tensions surfaced and required the team to work through them.
  • Turning Points: When a specific action, event, or decision significantly altered the course of the mission.
  • Breakdowns in Communication: When misunderstanding, lack of clarity, or missed communication created friction or delay.
  • Moments of Strong Leadership: When someone stepped forward in a way that positively influenced the team during a crucial situation.
