Oil Leak (Initial Response) - Outcome

Option 2F: Rapid Containment Response

Your team’s decisiveness in initiating a Rapid Containment Response demonstrated a commitment to action in the face of crisis.  Recognizing the urgency of the situation, and the lack of this capability inside Amazonia, you outsourced the operation at a considerable cost.  That said, you effectively contained the leak, maintaining operations, and no doubt mitigated the environmental impact, whatever that will be.

However, this approach came with its share of challenges. The response team faced an especially challenging situation in unfamiliar territory with adverse environmental conditions. Unfortunately, one of the team members sustained a life-threatening injury and remains in critical condition in the hospital.

While your Co-Chairs appreciated your action-oriented approach to maintain operations, they expressed concerns about the high cost of outsourcing this operation and the potential second order legal consequences of the injured team member.

A number of key questions loom large:

  • Who was behind the sabotage and what were their motivations?
  • What will this new security risk mean for your operations?
  • What is the full environmental impact of the spill?

Despite all of these questions, one thing you can be certain of is that Ana Pereira from ABC will be giving you a call very soon…
