Hostage Taking (Initial Response) - Outcome

Option 5A: Diplomatic Channels

Your team’s decision to transfer responsibility of the crisis to the Brazilian and American governments has sparked significant criticism and discontent.  While the US Consulate publicly expressed their support, privately, it harbors strong frustration with Amazonia for what it perceives as an evasion of responsibility, especially after the Senior Economic Officer’s recent communications with the Management Team.  The Brazilian government has, in contrast, openly voiced its displeasure, citing Amazonia’s lack of leadership and concern for both the hostages and the affected families.  This step has also resulted in a direct loss of control and influence over the situation, with no direct link established to the hostages.  Security experts have been unanimous in condemning this approach as they argue that diplomacy in response to a crisis is akin to ‘swimming against the tide’ and reflects a lack of competence.  The immediate safety of the hostages remains uncertain, and the survival of the Management Team – and Amazonia – is looking worse than ever…
