Neptune Shield - Mission Summary

Evaluation Criteria

The following assessment factors were used to evaluate the options along with a weighting of its importance.

Operational Security (30%): Impact on maintaining stealth and protecting the submarine’s classified status.
Crew Health & Safety (30%)
: Impact on the health and safety of the submarine crew.
Mission Continuity (20%)
: Ability to continue and complete the mission objectives.
Technical Feasibility (10%)
: Practicality and likelihood of success given the submarine’s technical capabilities.
Immediate Impact (10%)
: How quickly the action can stabilize the reactor to prevent further damage.

Each option is rated on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score (best outcome) and 1 being the lowest (worst outcome).

Supporting Rationale

Option 4 (1st) – Use of Emergency Coolant Reserves: This option ranks highest overall, balancing immediate impact with substantial crew safety and operational security, providing a strong temporary solution.

Option 3 – Reroute Power to Auxiliary Systems: Provides balanced support for essential systems but has reduced technical feasibility due to potential instability in power distribution.

Option 5 (2nd) – Seal Off Affected Section: A moderately safe and feasible option that efficiently contains the damage but doesn’t solve the underlying leak.

Option 2 (3rd) – Internal Repair Attempt: Offers the best chance to maintain stealth but carries significant risk to crew safety due to the intricate nature of internal repairs.

Option 7 (4th) – Proceed to Friendly Base: Offers high crew safety and repair support but risks mission failure and encounters with enemy forces due to extended travel time.

Option 6 (5th) – Evacuate the Submarine: Maximizes crew safety but severely impacts mission continuity and operational security.

Option 1 (6th) – Surface to Vent Heat: Scores lowest in operational security due to high risk of detection; however, it provides the quickest relief from reactor overheating.
