Community Mediation

Your team’s decision to engage local community leaders and respected figures for mediation has elicited mixed reactions.  The Brazilian government appreciates the emphasis on a localized approach while the American government questions the effectiveness of this method in a highly sensitive and complex situation.  Some experts expressed concerns about the limitations of community mediation in this context.   As the Community Mediation began, a successful line of communication was established with the captors.  Early stage discussions have also shown the potential for de-escalation.  This process will be time-consuming, but there remains hope that a peaceful resolution remains possible…
