Gathered in the pre-dawn quiet of JRH, your team finalizes its preparations and receives some final words of encouragement from your Mission Commander – callsign GUARDIAN. After a final equipment check, you board a Quest Kodiak aircraft that has taxied into position for your departure for a discreet entry into Myanmar.
Flying low to avoid radar detection, your aircraft moves through the no-fly zone, exploiting the contours of the Northern Myanmar mountainous landscape. After a relatively short 45 minutes in the air, the aircraft lands in complete darkness on the austere airstrip, ~15 km SOUTHWEST of the crash site. Upon landing, your team disembarks and moves to the edge of the jungle to begin the trek to the crash site where you hope Captain Chan is waiting.
The transition into organic growth is immediate and disorienting, challenging your senses and your stealth capabilities from the first step. The dense foliage becomes both shield and obstacle, obscuring your passage from unwanted observers while delaying your progress with vines and hidden roots. A sudden downpour transforms the ground into a treacherous mire, slowing your pace even more, but offering the silver lining of masking any noise you make.
The physical demands of the jungle trek were unmistakable. The team contended not only with the natural obstacles of the jungle but the psychological strain of maintaining constant vigilance in an unfamiliar environment. Despite these challenges, the choice of jungle infiltration seems to have afforded your team a significant tactical advantage — approaching the crash site undetected and ready for the subsequent phases of the mission, albeit exhausted.
